Our Principles

Community

Each community should be at the center of planning its own transition to renewable energy. We provide the tools and support needed for the communities we work with to be empowered to make their own clean energy transition.

Community Partnerships

We work closely with community organizations to better understand the needs of their constituents. We partner with neighborhood organizations including Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation, Dorchester Food Co-op, and Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation. We also partner with affinity groups like Massachusetts Interfaith Power & Light, Local Initiatives Support Coalition (LISC) and Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations (MACDC).

Statewide Solar Policy

We advocate for more equitable solar policy to increase solar accessibility. Recently, federal and state policies have increased incentives for low-income serving projects. We are continuing to advocate for a straightforward yet comprehensive methodology for verifying these projects and disbursing funds.

Culture

Doing transformative work is rewarding and important, but we recognize that a high level of passion for the work can put our team at an increased risk for burnout.

Hybrid Schedule

We actively cultivate a culture of care and support through work-life-balance policies including a flexible hybrid work schedule, reduced working hours, full remote weeks and a mental healthcare budget.

Financial Transparency

We provide financial transparency for all Resonant staff members. Company cash flows and salary information are available to all employees. Each employee is eligible to become an employee-owner on their 3rd anniversary with the company. Employee owners have decision-making and profit-sharing rights.

Our Company Culture Working Group meets regularly to hold us to these standards and is made up of employees from all teams and levels of the company.

Equity

The climate crisis is the challenge of our generation which we can only overcome if all of our voices are heard. While we are all impacted by the changing climate, this crisis is disproportionately affecting limited-resource communities and communities of color.

Environmental Justice-focused Solar Projects

We’re using solar as a tool to build wealth in and empower underinvested communities. 59% of our projects so far have served environmental justice communities and 23% of projects have directly served Low-Income Customers. Through electricity savings, incentive payments, and solar ownership, solar can make a tangible difference in a resident or organization’s financial sustainability.

Browning the Green Space

We are a founding member of Browning the Green Space, a coalition of leaders with the goal of increasing the participation and leadership of underrepresented groups in the clean energy space in the Northeast.

The Conversation
We regularly meet as a company for Racial Justice Working Groups in which we work to educate ourselves on the past and ongoing harms of structural racism in the communities we serve and work to implement solutions in our own business practices. The work is ongoing and we are committed to recognizing our own biases in order to actively create an anti-racist organization.

Excellence

We demonstrate excellence in all aspects of our work.

Customer Service
We strive to provide the highest level of customer service to our clients. We are committed to communicating proactively, meeting the priorities of your organization, and being transparent about all the steps of the process.

We are a registered B-Corporation and have committed to prioritizing our social and environmental impact in all aspects of our business.

“First and foremost, their team understands the financial constraints for houses of worship and they are dedicated and creative in finding ways to bring down cost barriers throughout the process.” - Jim Nail, Massachusetts Interfaith Power & Light

“If there were more groups like Resonant, a lot more people would have solar.” - Karen Payne, Solar Access Program Customer

Innovation

The solar industry has made huge strides over the last 10 years but it isn't moving quickly enough to meet the crushing speed of the climate crisis. We are innovating with creative financing, finding ways to maximize available space for solar, expanding equitable access, and simplifying complex portfolio structures.

Low-Income Access

The Solar Access Program is our flagship environmental justice initiative, allowing any building to host solar in exchange for clean energy bill savings – regardless of the owners’ income or credit score. The Solar Access Program has already helped more than 30 families and nonprofits go solar at no cost.

Nonprofit Affordable Housing

Our Solar Technical Assistance Retrofit Program (STAR) connects multifamily affordable housing developers in Massachusetts to the resources and technical assistance needed to realize the benefits of solar technology. So far, participants have committed to 6 MW of solar energy and that number continues to climb.

Hyper Local Community Solar

We’re pushing the envelope on shared clean energy with our Solar Equity Platform and by organizing hyper-local community solar projects. With our help, the Discovery Museum built a larger solar array than the museum needed, and is now sharing its extra output with other local nonprofits.

We’re helping build the next generation of climate leaders by empowering students to advocate for solar at their schools with the Students for Solar initiative.

Integrity

Moving a solar project through all the stages of development has many steps, stakeholders, and variables. We serve as your advocate and trusted partner all the way through.

Commitment and Communication

We know that challenges and complications may come up during the course of a project, but we make it our priority to communicate challenges and solutions to our clients as quickly and effectively as possible.

“The team was very communicative, and knowledgeable, and we had a point person to guide us throughout the entire process.” - Chrissy (Zumix, East Boston)

“Temple Beth David in Westwood is generating ALL of its electric power from its roof-mounted solar array. Thanks to the wonderful support from Resonant, the process was smooth and as effortless on our part as could be expected. From conception to turn-on, their vigilance was constant and much appreciated.” - Tim (Temple Beth David, Westwood)
